CREATING SACRED SPACE - WORK WEEK

Staff
Work at Elat Chayyim in a beautiful setting, bringing the full kavannah (intention) of creating beauty and knowing that your efforts will support the work of a sacred Jewish spiritual retreat space. Once again we are inviting our friends to help us as we get ready for the busy summer season with new construction as well as continued remodeling, painting, grounds and office work. In exchange for your efforts, we will provide free room and board, and a full (no work) Contemplative Shabbat Retreat.

CONTEMPLATIVE SHABBAT

Sylvia Boorstein & Rabbi Jeff Roth
Rabbi Jeff Roth

On this contemplative retreat, we will engage in spiritual and meditative practices that create a sense of serenity and spaciousness. As our minds become clear, our hearts can open and fill with compassion for ourselves and others. This extended weekend will be filled with contemplative practices including sitting and walking meditation, prayer and chanting as we prepare for a true Shabbat - a day filled with peace, rest and joy. Teachings, discussion, and time for reflection enhance our understanding of both the Shabbat observance and the contemplative practices. The retreat will be further enriched by observing silence outside of the formal sessions, deepening our attention to our personal experiences. Whether you've never meditated before, or have an established practice, you are welcome to join in the exploration of our ancient traditions in this most special way.

BEGINNER'S MEDITATION RETREAT FOR RABBIS AND JEWISH PROFESSIONALS

Sylvia Boorstein & Rabbis Jeff Roth and Sheila Peltz Weinberg

Rabbi Rabbi Jeff Roth

With the support of the Nathan Cummings Foundation, Sylvia Boorstein, Rabbis Jeff Roth and Sheila Peltz Weinberg will facilitate Jewish meditation retreats for rabbis and Jewish professionals at no cost. At these retreats, we combine sitting and walking meditation, Jewish prayer, and chanting. Except for teachings, chanting and question/answer periods, we live in silence, day and night, mealtime, and personal time. At the end of the retreat we share our experiences. This can be an opportunity for your own rest and renewal, increased self-understanding and a deeper connection to God, and it can offer an additional form that you can use when you lead and teach.

7-DAY MEDITATION RETREAT

Shoshana Cooper & Rabbi David Cooper and Rabbi Jeff Roth
Rabbi Jeff Roth

Few retreat experiences are as powerful, or have as long lasting an impact, as deep meditation. By removing ourselves from our daily routines and normal communication with each other, we can connect with the greater insights available to us through intuitive wisdom. Extensive meditation also enhances one's practice of devekut, merging with the continuous presence of the Divine. Together we will do sitting and walking meditation, chant prayers from Jewish liturgy, learn mystical teachings, and work with guided kabbalistic meditations that help heal on a soul level. Most of our seven-day retreat will be spent in silence, in order to create a spaciousness of mind that opens the heart to compassion and the mind to wisdom, leading to richer experience in everyday life.
